Deception Pass State Park III

We enjoy camping at a variety of different types of campgrounds. There are some strong benefits to RV sites with full hook-ups, paved and level campsites, and amenities within walking distance. These types of RV hook-ups mean hot showers everyday and no need to really worry about RV tank levels and water usage.

In contrast, we also enjoy PNW State Parks – which often don’t have full hook-ups, are rarely level, and are often miles away from any sort of amenities (like a grocery store!).

Who needs a daily hot shower anyway?

One of the major perks of State Parks is camping in the midst of wildlife – which is a huge benefit of putting up with slightly less luxurious camping accommodations.

At Deception Pass State Park, we had the opportunity to do a one-hour Deception Pass Boat Tour which let us check out local marine wildlife as well as see the famous Bridge built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the Great Depression.

The boat tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable and pointed out several different marine mammals as we cruised around the water.

The Sea Lions were really active – jumping around, swimming near the boat and sunning themselves on a buoy in the bay.

The Sea Lions were not the only animals enjoying the buoy – we saw a number of gulls and other coastal birds on the boat tour and during our walks around the park.

On one of our hikes in the park (with our furry friend Aurora) we also saw some Canada Goose families – including a large number of goslings. Aurora was more interested in smelling something in the sawgrass than the geese – which was probably a good thing!

Back at the campsite – the local squirrels had no issues chirping at Aurora and driving her crazy! We also saw a lot of rabbits and chipmunks in the campsite – they were everywhere we looked!

We really enjoyed Deception Pass State Park – the campground was picturesque, there was a lot of wildlife, we enjoyed campfires every night, and nights were cool and comfortable. We are looking forward to a return trip in the near future!
