Day 3 – Medora, North Dakota to Fargo, North Dakota

My trusty alarm woke me up promptly this morning at 5:50 a.m. to a brisk morning in beautiful Medora, North Dakota.

Was it a dog walking outside, a squirrel in a tree, or just the sunrise coming through the camper window?

Could it also be that Aurora is enjoying her time with me so much that she can’t wait to get up and have a new adventure?

While the answer is probably a dog walking by – I will deceive myself and continue to believe that she just can’t get enough alone time with her Dad.

After breakfast, a shower, and a long walk around the campground – we headed into Theodore Roosevelt National Park – a whopping 1 mile drive after exiting the campground.

As many of you are aware – I just turned 62 this year – which means I qualify for a lifetime National Park Pass – which I proudly showed to the Park Ranger at the entrance. I think my silver beard must have helped – she did not even blink on whether or not I was actually 62.

After watching the movie at the visitors center and getting my required stamps for our National Parks Passport book – it was time head out and look to see what animals we might find along the driving tour through the park.

At one of the first turn offs we were greeted by 2 Bison right beside the road – and thank-fully the only people deciding to take selfies with the “Fluffy Cows” were all at Yellowstone NP – so everyone snapped away and enjoyed seeing these magnificent creatures.

While not as magnificent – we did also see a number of Prairie Dogs running around making warning noises and in general doing whatever Prairie Dogs do to entertain wildlife seeking tourists like myself.

After 2 hours or so in the park … which is never enough time … we headed down the road to Fargo, North Dakota for the evening.

At one of the North Dakota Rest Stops today – I encountered what looks like a really old drinking fountain with a pump handle – but it might be something else. Anyway – you never know what you might find along the highway!

A final note – when we got fuel in the middle of North Dakota – regular gas was $2.89 a gallon – so obviously I was not Washington, Oregon or California!
