Day 5 – Food and Drink in Duluth

As I do trip planning over the winter months one resource I like to use is YouTube videos. I am always amazed at the quality of some of the content providers who travel around the nation.

As a bit of a travel nerd – I tend to take notes on some of the different things that I see that go onto a dynamic “if I ever go there” list.

Several travel videos that focused on the greater Duluth area mentioned going to the Boat Club Restaurant and Bar – and most importantly – having a Bloody Mary that is nearly a meal containing candied bacon, a small lobster tail, a dill pickle spear, havarti cheese and blue-cheese stuffed olives.

All in a single drink you say? YES.

Who would say no to such a challenge? The only decision to make was to go with the regular Vodka, the peppered/jalapeno Vodka, or the Ghost Pepper Vodka (which is what Andrew Schulz would have chosen).

I went with the regular Vodka.

It was plenty spicy enough for my 62-year old taste buds.

I know I looked cool in the sunglasses. That is because I left my regular glasses in the camper and did not want to walk back for them ….

It was delicious – and checked off one of my “if I ever get there” list.

Noel and I also like to find a local brewery – so during lunchtime we headed to Ursa Minor Brewing for some delicious Pizza (for Kirk) and a bowl with a lot of green stuff (for Noel). I enjoyed a tasty Cream Ale and Noel had a sparkling lemonade. At this point you might be asking yourself who is the adult in our small group – and the answer is often obvious.

We enjoyed our first trip to Duluth in almost 20 years- and will certainly come back in the future.

Alas – not everything we did in Duluth involved food and drink. Noel did some laundry, we bought groceries for another week, and did some routine maintenance items on the Atlas.

It was nice having one day where we enjoyed some relaxing time at the campsite and did not do significant driving. That will change tomorrow!

Next up – Michigan!
